Can your dog sit? How about stay? Come?
If your dog can do these three things then they have a great foundation! When they know these three things, everything else in training will follow.
The reason dog’s come is because they can’t think of a better place to be than to be with you! How sweet is that? Dog’s truly are a man’s (and woman’s) best friend. It is important to teach your dog to sit down as soon as he comes over to you after he is called. His first instinct after being called, should be to come over and sit down.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t like when a dog comes up to me and jumps up. It can be scary, ruin clothes, and can potentially be harmful.
When asking your dog to do anything, it is important to speak to them in complete
sentences and to also use please and thank you.
By using please and thank you, these words evoke a certain emotion inside of us that is softer and more gentle.
Rather than telling your dog to Sit Down, you can say, Hi (name of your dog) will you please sit for me? Sit down please.
We want our dogs to understand what we are asking them to do.
If we show respect and love towards our dog, they will have respect and love for us also! Helping your dog understand what you are asking of them, and teaching them with patience and kindness is best way you can train your dog. You will get the results you are looking for!
Your dog is a part of your family, therefore it is necessary to treat them in a loving and kind manner.
